Ghosts Called Us Whores
In E008, the crew kicks off with a stunning synchronicity around spirit guides and kanji before launching into a full Stanley Hotel episode — EVPs, physical contact, a levitating rug, ghostly children, Lord Dunraven, and a disembodied "bless you." Buckle up.
Show Notes
Episode 008 of The 108 Effect opens with Laura sharing a remarkable synchronicity: during a deep meditation to connect with her primary spirit guide — possibly linked to the Hindu deity Surya — she received kanji symbols as a “third eye vision.” That same day, completely independently, Tina attended a surprise company meeting about Japanese kanji culture. Neither knew this was coming. They’re still not over it.
The rest of the episode belongs to the Stanley Hotel. Built in 1903 in Estes Park, Colorado, it’s the location that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining — and it’s been a paranormal pilgrimage site ever since. Between Laura, Tina, Dawn, and Julie, the group has accumulated dozens of experiences there across multiple visits, and in this episode they lay it all out:
Julie felt physically pushed in the chest by an unseen force — which turned out to be protection from a nearby elk herd. Also witnessed phantom children running and shaking the door so hard it woke up her whole room.
Tina and Dawn spent seven nights there after barely knowing each other — captured an EVP calling them “whores” their first night (and multiple times after that), witnessed a bathroom rug levitate and wave, had their camera turned off — and back on 45 minutes later by something that also opened and shut the door on the recording.
Laura stayed in room 217 (Stephen King’s room) and was touched by what turned out to be the spirit of a child — confirmed by an EVP saying “who’s that?” captured 83 seconds before contact. Also captured a decisive male EVP saying “no” when informed the group was leaving. And at a conference with Ghost Hunters’ Grant Wilson, captured Lord Dunraven’s spirit calling out to “Josephine” — a real historical rival whose name was later verified through research.
